Developing Mastodon, I strive to use terminology that is familiar to as many people as possible so as to not put up unnecessary barriers in understanding. For this reason I am happy that we went away from calling posts "toots". It has always been a point of friction for people. Not that I dislike branding, quite the opposite, but in my experience receiving feedback over half a decade, it had a negative effect on the platform for little benefit.

I love how the American legal system leaves it up to a lawsuit to determine the value of my personal data, and that value is apparently $11.83

Invidous is an open source project and describes itself as "an alternative front-end to YouTube". There are many public installations (called instances).

The git history for my main flake is getting very littered as I slowly discover quirks of nix-on-droid

It turns out that for some reason Weston doesn't allow you to set scaling for the RDP backend, bummer, however I managed to get scaling working through the GDK_DPI_SCALE environment variable, so that's nice, next step: getting my config loaded in

So doing it through Greenfield (the html5 Wayland compositor) turned out to be a no-go. I'm not a big fan of VNC methods, I've never gotten them to be acceptably responsive, but I did remember that Weston (the reference compositor) has an RDP backend

Minimal fuckery later and I now have pgtk running natively on my tablet, with actually quite decent responsiveness

Now time to figure out how to configure Weston for scaling, how to load my fonts in there, and see what fuckery comes up when loading my emacs configuration in

Update: cmake-js is hitting some inexplicable file not found error and I do not know enough js to debug this

Live blogging my attempt to get GUI running on an unrooted android tablet without x11 or vnc by using an html5 wayland compositor. The general gameplan is as follows:
- Get greenfield building on nix
- Verify that pgtk emacs actually works in greenfeild
- Futz around with nix-on-droid until it works on the tablet

A generalist Mastodon instance with a nice domain name. Running on Glitch Social's fork with a custom theme!
