How do you pronounce “char”?

As in “character” or as in “Charmander”?

I want to say the former, but my brain cannot let go of the latter.

From one perspective, charlist just sounds like someone who studies people named Charlie.

@dubiousdisc I usually go for /X/, but I somtimes slip to /dz/. To avoid this decision, I actually quite often say "character" in its complete form.
